Historisch Weekend 2019

Historisch Weekend 2019

After all the 'hard' work, it was now time for pay back... Our first event with our new Oldtimer: The 'Historisch Weekend' in Den Helder on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June. It served many purposes:

  • A good reason to make a nice drive with our new car
  • The long drive towards Den Helder would be a perfect opportunity to discover some shortcomings on the car (and there are a few...)
  • Having this event in Den Helder was also a perfect opportunity to meet family and friends. Before moving to Belgium we have lived for many years in Den Helder (Julianadorp to be precise). And we do not see them that often since we have moved to Belgium
  • A perfect getaway for my wife and myself, especially as we have been treated like kings at the temporary B&B friends of ours had set up.

This year, Mercedes-Benz was the theme brand of the event, so special attention was there for those cars. Hmmm, only partially: in a nice hall 'Stadshal' some beauties were presented, but the 'more common' MB's were celebrated by having an area far away from the main area... Not really a way to highlight a specific brand, I would say...

We have really enjoyed these days, as the wheather was perfect (you could argue the Saturday was too hot...). Especially driving the car through the streets of Den Helder, with many spectators along the route, was amazing. My wife felt her jaw bones due to the continuous big smile she gave along the route. Really enjoyable!

Waiting in the queue in front of the Naval Museum. Thanks to the weather, absolutely no punishment!

The event was a very good opportunity to meet other car owners, like Frank and Linda who drove their 'Signalrot' (568) 380SL (107.045) car during this event. From their stories about the MB RC107 Club NL, we are looking forward to participate in any of the events of this active club. Anyway, we both acknowledged nice opportunities to discover each other's areas with a nice B&B and drive...

If they will organise the event again next year (this year was already their 23rd edition!) as there are some discussions on regulations and space available for a future event, we expect to be there again!
